Banksia Park International High School is situated in the north‐eastern foothills, within 20 kilometres ofthe Adelaide Central Business District. Our school philosophy focuses on educating for global futures andemphasises a total commitment to high quality learning and teaching in a rapidly changing environment.Students are located in a Middle Sub‐School (Years 8 to 9) and a Senior Sub‐School (Years 10 to 12).
The school is respected for its learning and organisational practices, policies and curriculum that support andgenerate a sense of belonging, high expectations and personal achievement for all students. Banksia ParkInternational High School is accredited for its international standards of excellence by the Council ofInternational Schools. Our Home‐stay Program is acknowledged as 'best practice' in South Australia for itssupport for our long and short term international students and teachers.
Our Global Citizens Medal haswon acclaim in the National Quality Teaching Awards and attracts interest both locally and internationally.Increase in provision and uptake of extra‐curricular activities during student break times includingJunior Indoor Soccer Competition with student participation from all Year 8 and 9 Care Groups,student ICT help team, variety of music groups such as student vocal group, concert band and yearlevel bands and performances, Café 12 for senior students, lunchtime activities with communityvolunteers.
o Student Voice groups very active across the school with forums, leadership conferences, buddyprograms, school tours, recycling program, decision making and fund raising.o Partnered with the Kiwanis Club of Tea Tree Gully to establish a Key Club which engages incommunity service activities in the local area.
o The second annual Arts Showcase highlighting areas of Music, Drama and Visual Art was held inSeptember, involving over 100 students from across all year levels.
o Art work by a 2010 Year 12 student was selected to be displayed in the 2011 SACE Art Show.
o 58 students participated in the 2011 Australian Mathematics Competition, 1 student achieved aHigh Distinction and was also the winner of the Prudence Award for the longest sequence ofcorrect answers, 6 received Distinctions, 20 achieved a Credit and 13 achieved Proficiency.
o 68 students participated in the 2011 Australian Science Competition, 7 achieved a Distinction and18 achieved a Credit.
o 1 Year 10 student underwent a rigorous selection process and was nominated by TTG Rotary Clubto participate in the National Youth Science Forum along with Australia's best and brightest youngscientists in Canberra in January 2012.
o A year 11 student was successfully nominated and attended the Spirit of Science Lectures,conducted by the Royal Institute, in England in December 2011.o Regular recognition of student successes and effort at whole‐school assemblies.o 17 of our staff were nominated for the inaugural South Australian Teaching Awards, 4 wereRegional Finalists and 2 were Regional Winners.
o 7 new members joined the Governing Council in 2011 and they quickly established positive andproductive relationships that have helped to lead the school forward.
o 110 athletes participated in the Interschool Athletics Carnival at SANTOS Stadium. The Year 8 girlswon their age shield for the first time and the girls won the overall trophy. This was an outstandingeffort against much larger schools.
o Provided communication to inform the school community of school vision, priorities and actions,including via the student diary, website, assemblies, performance plans and reviews, newsletters,Open Night. Increased enrolments by families from out‐of‐zone are one indication of thiscommunication being successful.
